Hackers reportedly gets their hands on Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and other games, circumvent DRM Lydia Sung - Tuesday, April 9, 2013 5:41pm (PST)
Whether for justice or self-serving purposes, hackers really do have a habit of ticking off the biggest corporations. Ubisoft`s Uplay service seems to be have been the latest target. The just-announced Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has been spotted on torrent sites, and hackers were reportedly claiming free games - some not yet available to the public - through Uplay for some time.
The good news is that user information hasn`t been compromised, which is what Ubisoft has assured their playerbase. While the publisher works to resolve security issues, Uplay services will remain available:
`We are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it quickly. No personal information was compromised. Uplay`s PC download service will be unavailable until the problem is fixed, however all other Uplay services remain available.`
So what were the hackers after? Games, it would seem. An exploit was discovered and released, allowing users to download Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon for free. Earlier today, over 30 minutes of footage wound up on YouTube, but Ubi quickly had that removed.
In addition to making Blood Dragon free, the hackers also found a workaround for playing games offline, circumventing DRM. All that said, Ubisoft already announced last year plans to drop always-on DRM from their PC games.
